Mathematics Münster at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill up to 10 positions for


Postdoctoral Research Associates (Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in, salary level E 13 TV-L, 100%)

to commence at the earliest possible date and no later than October 2024. Positions are available in all mathematical fields related to the work being undertaken at the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster: “Dynamics – Geometry – Structure”.

We are offering the fixed-term full-time positions (100% FTE) for 3 years. Some of the positions are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), for example through the Collaborative Research Centre “Geometry: Deformations and Rigidity” or a Leibniz prize, and some are funded by the University of Münster’s mathematical institutes, for example the Chair for Applied Analysis. The financial terms of the positions remain consistent regardless of the funding source. The main selection criterion is academic excellence.

Your tasks:

  • Establish your research profile in our stimulating research environment
  • Contribute independent scientific research related to the Cluster’s research areas
  • Actively engage in Cluster activities such as interdisciplinary exchanges and networking opportunitie

These positions are intended to support the pursuit of further qualification for an academic career. Successful candidates may be required to teach up to 4 hours per week during the semester depending on the source of funding.

Our expectations:

  • A strong doctorate in mathematics or a related field is required.
  • Research interests and a proposal for your own research project that align with at least one of Mathematics Münster’s research areas are required. Projects that foster links between our existing research areas are also encouraged.
  • Outstanding scientific achievements evidenced by, for example, a doctorate with honours, publications, awards or similar are expected.
  • A high degree of independent scientific work and the ability to work collaboratively in a team is expected.
  • A high level of ambition for, commitment to and enjoyment in scientific work is expected. - Good English communication skills are required. German language skills are not a requirement.

  • A cover letter, CV, copies of degree certificates (doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s) and a publication list
  • A research plan associated with one or two of the Cluster’s research areas
  • Applicants who have not yet completed their PhD are required to include a two-page outline of their dissertation project including their results up to now
  • A nomination for at least one potential mentor listed as an investigator from an associated research area at Mathematics Münster
