The Institute of Mathematical Stochastics of the University of Münster together with the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences (MPI MIS) in Leipzig, are seeking to fill the position of a
Doctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in, salary level E 13 TV-L, 75%)
for a DFG funded project within the SPP 2265 “Random Geometric Systems” at the earliest possible date. We are offering a fixed-term part-time position (75 %, FTE) for up to 36 months. The successful candidate will join the research groups of Martin Huesmann in Münster and Felix Otto in Leipzig and contribute to the development of the project “Optimal matching and balancing transport” We are offering an interesting and challenging position, alternating between the stochastic group in Münster (8 months/year) and the analysis group at the MPI MIS in Leipzig (4 months/year), and providing the opportunity to work in an innovative research project funded by the German Research Council (DFG). The position is paid according to the civil service rates of the German states.
Your tasks:
- Research in optimal transport, optimal matching, and couplings at the intersection of probability and analysis
This position is tied to working towards a doctorate.
Our expectations:
- A master’s degree or equivalent in mathematics or a closely related field (e.g. physics..)
- A strong mathematical background in analysis/probability
- Good English skills
- The ability to cooperate with and work in a team
