The Mathematics Münster Graduate School at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill up to 9 positions for
Doctoral Research Associates (Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in, (salary level E 13 TV-L)
to commence at the earliest possible date. Positions are available in all mathematical fields related to the work being undertaken at the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster: “Dynamics – Geometry – Structure”. We are offering fixed-term part-time positions (75% FTE) for 3 years. Some of the positions are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), either through the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster and the Research Training Group “Rigorous Analysis of Complex Random Systems”, while others are funded by the University of Münster’s mathematical institutes, for example the Chair for Applied Analysis. The financial terms of the positions remain consistent regardless of the funding source.
Your tasks:
These positions are designed to working towards a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) in any mathematical field related to the work being undertaken at the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster. Supported by a local supervisor chosen from among the investigators at Mathematics Münster, you will pursue your own research project. Depending on the source of funding, you are required to teach up to 4 hours per week during the semester (for full-time positions).
Our expectations:
- You hold a university degree (i.e. German Diplom and / or master’s degree) with above average grades in mathematics or a related field that meets the qualifications required for a doctorate.
- Your research interests align with or foster links between the research fields at Mathematics Münster.
- You possess above average mathematical ability as well as analytical strength.
- You show a high level of ambition for, commitment to and enjoyment in scientific work.
- You work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
- You speak and write English fluently. German language skills are not required.

Ada Lovelace Fellowships
Supplementary doctoral positions
(salary level E 13 TV-L, 25% add-on position)
Supplementary fellowships will be offered to exceptionally strong candidates in the doctoral programme and should contribute to gender equality within the mathematical sciences.
Our expectations:
- Fellowships must supplement a doctoral position and applications may be combined with the application for a 75% doctoral research associate position at Mathematics Münster.
- Fellowship applications will also be accepted from current members of the Mathematics Münster
- Graduate School, who accepted an offer for a doctoral research associate position (max. 75%) after the previous Ada Lovelace selection in spring or who are receiving a scholarship for their doctoral studies and started their doctorate after the previous Ada Lovelace selection in spring.
