The research group of Prof Tobias Heindel from the Department for Quantum Technology in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Postdoctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in, salary level E 13 TV-L, 100%)

at the earliest possible date. We are offering a fixed-term full-time position for 2 years. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

Your tasks:

  • Participate in the research activities of Prof Heindel’s research group, including planning and executing scientific projects in the fields of solid-state quantum optics and quantum technology.
  • Setup and maintain quantum optics laboratories and associated experimental setups and organise daily group operations, including working with lasers, electrical instruments, vacuum equipment, cryogenic environments, programming of experimental control systems and software.
  • Play a leading role in coordinating, executing and developing collaborative research efforts with group members, students, national and international partners in academia and industry.
  • Close synergetic interaction with team members based in Berlin, especially for the purpose of transferring knowledge and equipment to the laboratories in Münster.

Our expectations:

  • A graduate degree (i.e. German Diplom and/or master’s degree) and a doctorate, both in physics, electrical engineering or a closely related field, are required.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in material science, semiconductor physics, photonics, quantum optics and basic knowledge in quantum information science and technology are indispensable.
  • Practical experience in setting up quantum optics experiments and their optimisation using state-of-the-art equipment is required.
  • Experience with high-level programming languages, preferably LabVIEW and Python (or similar), is mandatory.
  • Experience as a supervisor and teaching assistant capable of supervising students is desirable.
  • You should be team-oriented, have good communication skills, organisational skills, scientific writing and presentation skills and the ability to work independently.
  • German language skills are not a requirement, but a willingness to learn is desirable.
