The research group of Prof Tobias Heindel from the Department for Quantum Technology in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a
Doctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in, salary level E 13 TV-L, 75%)
for the externally funded project “Vernetzt” (funded by BMFTR—Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space) at the earliest possible date. We are offering a fixed-term part-time (75%) position for 4 years. The appointment is subject to the final approval of funding by the BMFTR.
Your tasks:
- This position is tied to working towards a doctorate
- Contribute to the scientific objectives and milestones of the “Vernetzt” project
- Working with microscopes, lasers, electrical instruments, cryogenic environments, programming experimental control systems and software.
- Execution, evaluation and interpretation of quantum optics experiments using semiconductor quantum dots for entangled photon generation
- Development of field-deployable demonstrators for quantum communication in optical fibers
- Setup, operation, and maintenance of quantum communication experiments in laboratory and field trials
- Publication of research results in leading international journals and presentation of results at scientific conferences
- Supervision of Bachelor's and Master's students
- Close synergetic interaction with team members at the University of Münster, external project partners, and collaborating groups.
Our expectations:
- A graduate degree (i.e. German Diplom and/or master’s degree) in physics, or a closely related field, is required.
- Knowledge in the fields of in material science, semiconductor physics, photonics, quantum optics and quantum information science and technology are indispensable.
- Practical experience in setting up quantum optics experiments and their optimisation using state-of-the-art equipment is required.
- Ideally, relevant experimental experience in the field of solid-state-based quantum emitters, in particular epitaxial quantum dots, and/or the implementation of quantum cryptographic protocols can be demonstrated
- Experience with high-level programming languages, preferably LabVIEW and Python (or similar), is mandatory.
- Experience as a supervisor and teaching assistant capable of supervising students is desirable.
- You should be team-oriented, have good communication skills, organisational skills, scientific writing and presentation skills and the ability to work independently.
- German language skills are not a requirement, but a willingness to learn is desirable.
