Professorship for Violoncello (W2, equiv. LBesG NRW)
(successor to Matias de Oliveira Pinto)
You will be obliged to teach 21 hours per week during the semester (SWS).
Your tasks:
- head a violoncello class as part of artistic and artistic-pedagogical training in all degree programmes of the University of Music (individual instruction for students majoring in violoncello in FB 15)
- head the “Tiefe Streicher” (Deep Strings) specialist group and serve as its University and public representative
- supervise supplementary subjects, e.g. chamber music, orchestra, New Music and cross-genre and stylistic hybrids e.g. crossover, classic/pop and film music
- actively help recruit German and international students
- assist with assembling and coordinating University ensembles and participate in both internal and external projects
- head internal artistic and artistic-pedagogical workshops and master classes
- secure external concert performance opportunities for students and provide supervision
- collaborate with music education institutions, also in connection with projects (e.g. music schools, orchestras)
- contribute to securing third-party funding and external grants
- supervise and administer aptitude tests and degree-relevant examinations including academic theses and dissertations
- actively participate in further developing the faculty’s subject-specific and university-didactic curricula
- actively participate in self-administrative committees and ensure regular presence at the University
Our expectations:
- You hold a higher education degree in the subject Violoncello (substantiated by relevant certificates).
- You are an outstanding artistic personality with extensive international concert experience and excellent pedagogical aptitude (substantiated by relevant certificates).
- You have several years of experience teaching in the higher education sector (substantiated by relevant certificates).
- Experience in the professional field of orchestras is required (substantiated by relevant certificates).
- Sufficient knowledge of German and English is required.
- You will be actively shaping academic life at the University.
- You will be expected to competently handle and use media in a higher-education context.
- Team-working, organisational and communications skills are also required.
- Intercultural competence and interest in addressing gender- and diversity-related themes are a must.
- Involvement in international master classes is desired.
- Supplementary study courses (and degrees) or experience in interdisciplinary contexts are preferable.
