The Institute of Sport and Exercise Sciences, Department Neuromotor Behavior and Exercise at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill two positions of a


Doctoral Research Associate (EU Forscher*in)

(salary level E 13 TV-L or funding corresponding to EU regulations, depending on what is more advantageous in the employee’s individual case)

for the EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network “Translational Research Network in Motor Disorder Rehabilitation: Advancing understanding of variability in motor control and learning, to enhance clinical practice (TReND)” commencing on 1 September 2024. We are offering a fixedterm full-time position for 3 years until 31 August 2027. Your tasks:

  • Work on one of the following subjects/topics: (1) motor control and neurophysiological correlates in Parkinson Disease Patients or (2) motor learning in older adults
  • This includes Investigation of neural and behavioural movement variability in different (patient) populations (experimental studies and data analysis). - Communication and dissemination of research results to different target audiences and sectors (e.g., research, clinical and industry).
  • Publication of research results in well ranked international journals and at highly recognized international conferences.
  • Collaboration with an international consortium in the externally funded MSCA doctoral network TReND - Participation in the network’s training programme including in person events (e.g., summer schools) and online events (e.g., lecture series, colloquia etc.).
  • The position is tied to working towards a doctorate

Our expectations:

  • A postgraduate degree (master’s degree) in sport and exercise science, human movement science, cognitive science, neuroscience, biomedical engineering or related studies is required.
  • MSCA mobility rule must be implemented: researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their date of recruitment (1 September 2024)
  • Candidates are not allowed to hold a doctoral degree.
  • Advanced knowledge in human movement science, Parkinson Disease, or neuroscience methods (EEG or fNIRS)
  • Good knowledge of statistical methods
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to visit network partners in France (Marseille), Switzerland (Bern) and Israel (Tel-Aviv) for a maximum duration of three months per visit.
  • Willingness to travel to different international network events


Desirable:

  • Solid knowledge in human movement analysis (e.g., motion tracking, force control) or neuroscience methods (e.g., EEG, fNIRS)
  • Basic or advanced knowledge in programming skills and data analysis tools (e.g., R, MATLAB, Python).
  • Basic knowledge of time-series analysis
  • Previous experience in working with human subjects and patients
  • German language skills are not a requirement but a willingness to learn is expected.
  • Team-oriented, good communication skills, organisational skills, can work independently
