The Mathematics Münster Graduate School at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill up to 13 positions for


Doctoral Research Associates (Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in, salary level E 13 TV-L, 75%)

to commence at the earliest possible date and no later than October 2025. Positions are available in all mathematical fields related to the work being undertaken at the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster: “Dynamics – Geometry – Structure”.

We are offering fixed-term part-time positions (75% FTE) for 3 years. Some of the positions are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), either through the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster, the Collaborative Research Centre “Geometry: Deformations and Rigidity”, the Research Training Group “Rigorous Analysis of Complex Random Systems”, or a Leibniz prize, while others are funded by the University of Münster’s mathematical institutes, for example the Chair for Applied Analysis. The financial terms of the positions remain consistent regardless of the funding source.

Your tasks:

These positions are designed to working towards a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) in any mathematical field related to the work being undertaken at the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster. Supported by a local supervisor chosen from among the investigators at Mathematics Münster, you will pursue your own research project. Depending on the source of funding, you may be required to teach up 4 hours per week during the semester (for full-time positions).

  • You hold a university degree with above average grades in mathematics or a related field that meets the qualifications required for a doctorate.
  • Your research interests align with or foster links between the research areas at Mathematics Münster.
  • You possess above average mathematical ability as well as intellectual and analytical strength.
  • You show a high level of ambition for, commitment to and enjoyment in scientific work.
  • You work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
  • You speak and write English fluently. German language skills are not required.

Supplementary doctoral positions
