The Institute of Organic Chemistry in the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a


Doctoral Research Associate (EU-Forscher*in, salary level E 13 TV-L)

for the externally funded Horizon-EU project Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network - Industrial Doctorate “Photocatalytic Industrial Applications” (PIA) commencing on 1 June 2025. The PIA Industrial Doctoral Network will train 6 Doctoral Candidates (DCs) in the field of photocatalysis applied to the pharmaceutical industry. The PIA consortium combines the drug discovery research experience of three pharmaceutical European companies (Sanofi-Aventis(DE), Seqens (FR) and Synthelia Organics(ES)) with the outstanding research in the field of photocatalysis of three academic groups (Profs. José Alemán (ES), Géraldine Masson (FR) and Olga García-Mancheño (DE)). From those, 2 positions will be allocated at the University of Münster and each DC will be hired for a total of 3 years (DC2 and DC5)**: a fixed-term full-time position (100%) for **18 months (1.5 years) by the University of Münster followed by 18 months (1.5 years) by an industrial beneficiary according to the following table (see entries highlighted):

During the 18 months with one of the industry partners, the applicant will be on unpaid leave from the University of Münster.

Our expectations:

  • A graduate degree in Organic Chemistry (i.e., master’s degree) is required.
  • Comply with the mobility rule is mandatory. Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date.
  • Comply with the Doctoral Candidate definition is mandatory: at the time of recruitment by the hosting institution, applicants must be in the first four years (or full-time equivalent research experience) of their research career and not been awarded a doctoral degree.
  • Good command of written and spoken English is expected.
  • Knowledge of Spanish, French and German would be advantageous but are not a requirement.
  • Previous experience in organic synthesis and spectroscopic characterization (NMR, IR, UV-Vis, etc) is desirable. - Basic knowledge on photocatalysis would be welcomed.
  • Soft skills such as team-oriented, good communication skills, organisational skills, working independently and creativity are desirable.
