Mathematics Münster is establishing a DFG funded Research Training Group (RTG) on the “Rigorous Analysis of Complex Random Systems” (www.uni-muenster.de/MathematicsMuenster/RTG-Probability/). We seek to employ methods from probability theory, mathematical analysis and related fields to understand how probabilistic systems, modelled on a microscopic scale behave effectively on macroscopic scales. Within this RTG we are seeking to fill a position as


Postdoctoral Research Associate( Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in. salary level E 13 TV-L, 100%)

to commence on 1 October 2025 or soon thereafter. We are offering this full-time, fixed-term position for 3 years.

Your tasks:

  • Establish your research profile in our stimulating research environment
  • Conduct independent scientific research related to the RTG’s research topics
  • Engage in RTG activities such as colloquia, summer schools, and networking opportunities

The position is designed to support the pursuit of further qualification for an academic career.

Our expectations:

  • A strong doctorate in mathematics or a related field is required.
  • Your research interests and research proposal for your own project must align with at least one of the topics of the RTG. We also encourage projects that foster links between our existing research topics.
  • Evidence of outstanding scientific achievements is expected, such as a doctorate with honours, publications, awards or similar.
  • The ability to conduct independent scientific work and also collaborate in a team is essential.
  • A high level of ambition for, commitment to and enjoyment in scientific work is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, German language skills are not required.

  • Applications should contain a cover letter, CV, copies of degree certificates (doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s), a publication list, as well as a research plan associated with the key research focus of the RTG.
  • Applicants who have not yet completed their PhD are required to include a two-page outline of their dissertation project including their results up to now.
  • Applicants should nominate at least one potential mentor listed as an investigator from the RTG.
