The Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology and Phytochemistry (IPBP) at the University of Münster seeks to fill the following position by 1 April 2027:

W3-level professorship in pharmaceutical biology and
phytochemistry

We are looking for an internationally distinguished researcher (m/f/d) to represent the entire field of pharmaceutical biology and phytochemistry. The candidate’s research work should focus on a current area of pharmaceutical biology and phytochemistry, including aspects related to isolation, structural elucidation, biosynthesis and efficacy and also with respect to biological testing and the therapeutic application of biogenic plant-based agents. The candidate’s specialisation should serve to augment, strengthen and further develop the existing scientific orientation of our institute and the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the University of Münster in the field of natural, plant-based substances. A focus on scientific interactions between phytotherapeutic issues and medicinally practical applications would be advantageous. Participation in local collaborative projects of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and beyond is expected. The candidate’s research focus should be internationally visible and advance the transformation of sustainable drug therapies.

Leadership skills and prior success at securing third-party funding are expected. The future appointee will be required to teach pharmaceutical biology in German as part of the degree programme “Pharmacy”. Teaching experience in the subject of pharmaceutical biology and approbation as a pharmacist are expressly desired. The applicant must possess methodological competence in university teaching and provide high-quality instruction by integrating innovative teaching methods. We expect the candidate to participate in other degree programmes, BSc/MSc Food Chemistry, MSc Pharmaceutical Sciences [new format in planning], etc.).

To be considered for this position, the candidate must hold a university degree in pharmacy or a related natural science, possess special academic qualification, substantiated by the quality of their doctoral degree, as well as academic achievement obtained through an assistant professorship (Juniorprofessur), habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), as a member of the academic staff of a university or non-university research institute, or in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant fields in Germany or abroad.
