We are offering fixed-term full-time positions (100% FTE) for 3 years. Some of the positions are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), for example through the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster, the Collaborative Research Centre “Geometry: Deformations and Rigidity”, or a Leibniz prize, while others are funded by the starting grant “Comparison and rigidity for scalar curvature” of the European Research Council (ERC) or the University of Münster’s mathematical institutes, for example the Chair for Applied Analysis. The financial terms of the positions remain consistent regardless of the funding source.

Your tasks:

  • Establish your research profile in our stimulating research environment.
  • Contribute independent scientific research related to the Cluster’s research areas.
  • Engage in Cluster activities such as interdisciplinary exchanges and networking opportunities.

These positions are designed to support the pursuit of further qualification for an academic career. Depending on the source of funding, you may be required to teach up to 4 hours per week during the semester.

Our expectations:

  • You hold a strong doctorate in mathematics or a related field.
  • Your research interests and a proposal for your own research project aligns with at least one of Mathematics Münster’s research areas. We also encourage projects that foster links between our existing research areas.
  • You can evidence outstanding scientific achievements by, for example, a doctorate with honours, publications, awards or similar.
  • You conduct independent scientific work and also collaborate in a team.
  • You show a high level of ambition for, commitment to and enjoyment in scientific work.
  • You speak and write English fluently. German language skills are not required.

Advantages for you:

As a member of the Mathematics Münster Postdoc Programme you will be a vital part of the international research community within the Cluster of Excellence. You are encouraged to establish your research profile in our inspiring research environment, amongst internationally renowned mathematicians, and benefit from the career development opportunities designed to foster your scientific independence. Guidance in your academic endeavours is provided by a mentor chosen from among the professors of the mathematical institutes.

You will profit from the amenities of the Cluster of Excellence by, for example, receiving financial and organisational support for

  • Conference travel and attendance at summer schools.
  • Hosting guest researchers, for both short collaborations and longer stays within our Young Research Fellow Programme.
  • Organising academic events, for example as part of the Young Mathematicians Conference Network (YMCN).
  • Scientific networking opportunities as well as soft skill workshops.
  • Support regarding family matters, e.g. parent-child rooms, temporary child care, travel support, and dual career opportunities.

Moreover, the University of Münster offers infrastructural support for and workshops on a diverse range of topics such as third-party funding and professional training for your career development as well as sport and health programmes to ensure a healthy work-life balance.

The University of Münster strongly supports equal opportunity and diversity. We welcome all applicants regardless of sex, nationality, ethnic or social background, religion or worldview, disability, age, sexual orientation or gender identity. We are committed to creating family-friendly working conditions. Part-time options are generally available.

We actively encourage applications by women. Women with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered unless these are outweighed by reasons which necessitate the selection of another candidate.
