The Institute of Organic Chemistry in the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Münster is seeking to fill the position of a


Doctoral Research Associate Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in (salary level E 13 TV-L, 50%)

commencing on 1 September 2025. This is a part-time position (50%) limited to 3 years. The full-time teaching commitment is 4 hours per week during semester (4 SWS).

Your tasks:

  • Research in the field of homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysis using, for example, visible light or electricity and gases such as H2 or CO2.
  • Research on the development of surfaces modified with N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and similar molecules: This work is highly interdisciplinary and is to be carried out in collaboration with other scientists from various disciplines. In addition to developing the materials, the research will also explore their application, for example, in enantioselective heterogeneous catalysis.
  • Collaboration in teaching and training at the Institute of Organic Chemistry

The position is tied to working towards a doctoral qualification. This may require participation in the graduate study programs of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy (SFB 1459, IRTG 2678).

Our expectations:

  • Very good university degrees (BSc and MSc) in chemistry and a very good master's thesis in the field of organic chemistry are required for the position.
  • Very good theoretical knowledge in the field of organic chemistry and catalysis as well as practical experience in the necessary preparative laboratory techniques (e.g. inert gas techniques, low-temperature reactions) and the associated analytical methods (LC, GC; GC-MS, HPLC, NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry) are required.
  • Very good English language skills are desired, as are German language skills or the willingness to learn German.
  • A high degree of initiative and commitment, and
  • International research experience of at least one year, preferably in different research environments (different universities, or university and industry) or various working groups.
