The Institute of Management Accounting & Control at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a


Doctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in, salary level TV-L E 13, 75%)

at the earliest possible date. Our preference is for the candidate to start as soon as possible, however, the entry date can be arranged in accordance with the candidate’s preferences. The initial contract is for three years, parttime (75% FTE), but may be extended. Candidates are welcome to apply early, which may even be several months prior to their graduation. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

We conduct empirical research on management control, performance management and strategy implementation with regard to firm transformation, sustainability and entrepreneurship, among other questions. We strive to improve corporate practice in these research areas by providing novel insights. We are interested in research questions such as

  • how firms and employees react to unforeseen changes in the difficulty of targets,
  • to which extent transformations can be considered a driver for firms’ success,
  • how sustainability targets are contributing to a firm’s financial performance, or
  • whether management control systems from start-ups can be successfully implemented in established companies.

Your tasks:

The position is tied to working towards a doctorate. Your operational tasks will be related, but not limited to teaching, project work and/or administrative duties

Our expectations:

You have successfully completed or currently demonstrate exceptional achievements in your studies of business administration, economics or a related field and will hold a master’s degree, or equivalent, at the beginning of your employment. During your studies, you acquired knowledge in statistical and empirical research, econometrics, and applied data analysis.

You are interested in our core topics and empirical research on an international level. In addition, you have pronounced analytical skills and excellent German and English language skills.

You are able to work independently and have a structured and goal-oriented work ethic. Finally, you want to be part of a team and to broaden your academic and personal horizons.
