The Chair of German and International Public Law and Comparative Law in the Faculty of Law, at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a


Postdoctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in , salary level E 13 TV-L, 100%)

for the externally funded project “Systemic deficiencies in the system of protecting the human rights of migrants: A comparison of the Inter-American and the European Court of Human Rights” commencing on 1 October 2024. We are offering a fixed term full-time position until 28 February 2027.

Your tasks:

  • collaboration in the externally funded project “Systemic deficiencies in the system of protecting the human rights of migrants: A comparison of the Inter-American and the European Court of Human Rights” (https://www.medimi.de/en/article/66.systemic-deficiencies-in-the-system-of-protecting-the-humanrights-of-migrants.html)
  • independent academic research and publications on issues related to the jurisprudence of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on human rights protections for migrants (in English or German)
  • there are no mandatory teaching activities, but there is an opportunity to teach if desired

Our expectations:

  • A university degree in law or political science (i.e. German Diplom and/or master’s degree) as well as a completed doctorate are required.
  • Knowledge in the field of International Public Law and Comparative Law and/or experience in the field of Human Rights Law, proven by corresponding publications or a corresponding PhD thesis is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, proven by experience abroad is essential.
  • The ability to work independently with demonstrated organisational skills is a must.
  • Willingness to cooperate with the research group of the University of Gießen and the disposition to occasionally travel throughout Germany for that purpose is essential.
  • Spanish language skills, in particular the ability to read judgments written in Spanish, would be advantageous but are not a requirement.
