43,000 students and 8,000 employees in teaching, research and administration, all working together to shape perspectives for the future – that is the University of Münster. Embedded in the vibrant atmosphere of Münster with its high standard of living, the University’s diverse research profile and attractive study programmes draw students and researchers throughout Germany and from around the world.
The Institute of Neuro and Behavioural Biology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a
Doctoral Research Associate (salary level TV-L E 13, 65%)
This DFG-funded position in the lab of Prof Ralf Stanewsky is available from the earliest possible date for the duration of three years.
The Stanewsky group investigates neuronal, genetic, molecular, and behavioural aspects of circadian clock biology using a broad range of techniques, including real time gene expression analysis, CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis, behavioural monitoring and tracking, as well as modern imaging approaches. The laboratory is based at the Multiscale Imaging Centre, which provides an outstanding research environment with state-of-the-art microscopy infrastructure and an international atmosphere.
Your tasks:
- Generating clock mutants in Tribolium castaneum using CRISPR/Cas9 methodology.
- Generating a Tribolium castaneum line, stably expressing a clock-Luciferase fusion-gene.
- Apply real-time bioluminescence assays to quantify rhythmic gene expression in Tribolium castaneum using the stable clock-Luciferase fusion gene beetle line.
- Present your data and progress reports in group meetings and institutional seminars.
- Actively participate in your designated PhD graduate school program.
- This position is tied to working towards a doctorate.
Our expectations:
- A MSc degree in Biology or a related discipline is required.
- Applicants should be independent, passionate and collegial, with experience in molecular biology, cloning, genetics, and/or germ line transformation.
- Experience with Tribolium or Drosophila molecular genetics is welcome, but not an essential requirement.
- German language skills are not required. A good command of spoken and written English is required to communicate with the team and other members of the Institute.
Advantages for you:
- Appreciation, commitment, openness and respect – values which are important to us.
